Our Mission
Local voter turnout has been at a historical low. After interviewing many registered voters, we learned that this was due to a lack of time and convenience. We made it our goal to create an online tool which would help people find which candidate best matches their views, in a brief, assessment based manner, and accessible on any device, something which has never been done before for local elections. Although we highly recommend doing your own research on the candidates our algorithm suggests, Candid serves as a great starting point for anyone who wants to make an informed vote in their next local election.
How it Works
In short, you will take a brief assessment in which you will be presented with an opinion, and you will have to select “strongly agree,” “agree,” “neutral/unsure,” “disagree,” or “strongly disagree” depending on how you feel about the matter. After you answer all of the questions, a percent match is calculated between you and each of the candidates, and you can search your zipcode to find the specific candidates from your local race. The entire webapp is coded in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and all of the code is completely open source and available on Github.
